In October, we were able to add a modular motion table to our arsenal of test and inspection devices, which we developed ourselves as part of a bachelor's thesis with our student Nils Maiero.
In future, we will be able to test the operability of screens and input elements under the influence of motion and acceleration effects in our HMI projects for various utility and construction machinery vehicles and other interface projects. The motion table offers a stroke of 150 mm on each of the four controllable supports and a tilt angle of 5° tilt and 7° roll, which at maximum adjustment speed - an acceleration of 0.1 G to a maximum of 0.5 G - corresponds to typical driving dynamics loads in car/truck driving.
The motion table is equipped with screen printing plates and a threaded grid of 100 by 100 mm on a base frame made of ITEM profiles. The base area of currently 1600 by 1200 mm can be adapted with little effort thanks to the profile structure and a wide variety of operating elements and a maximum payload of 300 kg can be placed on the motion table quickly and modularly. Additional elements such as monitors can be mounted from the ceiling or side using ITEM profiles.
It was important to us that the Motion Table was lightweight and easy to transport. When placed on its side, the entire structure fits through standard door sizes via directly integrated castors. By unscrewing the longitudinal profiles, the table can also be easily transported in an estate car. Only 230 volts are required for operation. The system is controlled via a standard joystick, making it flexible to use.
In addition to the attachment of physical input and display elements, the motion table can also be operated using hybrid AR technologies: Here, the test person wears VR glasses in which various arrangements and elements can be projected into the surrounding space via a 3D environment. In combination with some ‘real’ physical elements such as chairs and steering wheels, various scenarios can be tested effectively and with little effort.
