The new GTA 40 expands the STIHL portfolio of pruners with a new tool developed for professional users. In close cooperation with our customer STIHL, we developed the product design of the battery-powered device, taking into account the overall design strategy, the corporate design and the colour brand.
GTA 40
Like its smaller brother from the consumer segment, the GTA 26, the professional version GTA 40 is powered by the small but powerful AS battery. To achieve the performance and operating time required by professional users, the GTA 40 is equipped with 2 AS batteries, which are integrated at the end of the handle to optimise the balance of the brush cutter.
The GTA 40 complements the STIHL range of top-handle saws used in tree care. The aim of the development was to make the device particularly compact and easy to handle in order to make work in the tree as simple as possible. Compared to the GTA 26, the GTA 40 has been supplemented with an oil tank - as is familiar from the saws. In addition, an eyelet for hanging up the saw makes it safe and easy to transport when working at great heights.
A particular challenge in the design was the realisation of the typical STIHL shape and design language in the very compact installation space close to the pack. In addition, the high demands on safety and ergonomics had to be taken into account. Despite the multitude of requirements, the design is recognisable as a clear STIHL design and expands the relatively new product category of wood trimmers with the striking and clear professional device.
