After a long break from CORONA, BUSSE Design+Engineering was back at MEDICA 22 and was delighted to see such a well-attended trade fair. Even though some global players did not exhibit, many exciting companies were on site with their products and we had time to discuss current project topics with our international customers, as well as the design control development process in medical technology.
As many Asian manufacturers were also represented, BUSSE Design+Engineering with its global customers and contacts was a popular contact at the international trade fair stands.
Following on from our comprehensive MEDICA trend analysis from 2019, a clear trend is emerging in 2022, with a few exceptions, especially for small to medium-sized table-top devices: Black & White Editions with soft rounding and a slanted / black front surface as the operating unit, framed by a fine frame, were the dominant design themes.
As many devices are similar in terms of design, the design of the human-machine interface through the UI/UX design is becoming increasingly important as a unique selling point and to differentiate from the competition.
In addition to the actual operation of the device with the best possible ease of learning and self-explanation, the integration of the device information into the overall hospital data management - keyword connectivity - is an increasingly important topic. How can the relevant data from a diagnostic device, e.g. for other devices in the treatment and surgical process, be provided as digitally as possible and - if necessary even across manufacturers - transmitted and displayed?
The choice of the right interaction concept consisting of hardware elements and software and the most ergonomic arrangement of the control levers and display content on the device and screen is also becoming increasingly important with the wealth of information and functions as well as regulatory requirements.
