That it pays to closely network all the specialist areas involved in development and to source design and construction from a single source - the HairMaster from OLYMP is an excellent example of this.

For over 20 years, the OLYMP HairMaster has been synonymous among hairdressers with outstanding quality and excellent hairstyling results. After more than 100,000 units sold worldwide, it was nevertheless time to subject the HairMaster to further development - for this purpose, OLYMP brought the development expertise of Busse Design+Engineering on board.

Nothing is the way it used to be - and that's a good thing

The new design of the HairMaster -convincingly elegant due to its flowing shape- focuses on the tension between formal lightness, open construction and technical power.

The body consists of two separate elements: The filigree upper shell is embedded in the powerful lower shell. This also allows various color combinations to match the salon furnishings. Day-to-day handling is facilitated by a discreet recessed grip on the unit. All in all, all the technical components blend harmoniously into the dynamic silhouette of the unit - an outward expression of the forward-looking technology inside.

For it is not only the appearance of the HairMaster that has been modernized. The housing, the technical design and the patented combination solution of drying hood and infrared unit have also been further developed. Here, it was particularly important to meet all requirements in terms of design, function, manufacturability, ergonomics and aesthetics - a fitting task for the interdisciplinary development process typical of Busse.

Today, a new patented airflow system ensures a perfect thermal profile, which was further developed and optimized in close coordination with the experts from OLYMP by Busse and the electronics development partner in models and tests accompanying the development.

The filigree radiator grid inside the unit can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement of the radiators. The flowing shapes and flat surfaces allow easy and thorough cleaning.

A new operating concept - developed in close cooperation between Busse and OLYMP - enables intuitive operation and user guidance. This is ensured by the 5.7" LCD display and the "Easy-Control-Wheel" - a control element with turn and click function. A satin light ring frames the Easy-Control-Wheel and visualizes the respective treatment phase in changing colors, which the hairdresser can clearly identify even from a distance.

Networked development process - success comes hand in hand

Handling and ergonomics as a product quality that can be perceived every day underline the claim of OLYMP and the partners involved in this development. Electronics, interface, design and software development all went hand in hand here.

Thanks to a close coordination process, initial design sketches were quickly converted into a proportion model and CAD surfaces, so that the dimensioning of the electronics and the technical design of the functional parts could be carried out at the same time. The subsequent series suppliers from toolmaking and injection molding were also involved at an early stage to enable rapid manufacturing cost estimates and series implementation without many change loops. Development-accompanying models provided valuable insights throughout the entire process.

As a result of the successful cooperation between OLYMP, Busse Design + Engineering and their partners from the fields of electronics development and toolmaking, a new generation of devices was created - technically and aesthetically innovative to the very top.
